Does Smithsonian magazine have a digital edition?
Smithsonian is available for purchase on Amazon Kindle, iTunes, Barnes and Noble Nook, Zinio, and Google Play.
To experience the Smithsonian Digital Edition for iPad® download the Smithsonian Magazine App from the iTunes App Store and follow the on-screen instructions.
Can I get the Smithsonian Digital Edition without having a print subscription?
Yes, you can buy the Smithsonian Digital Edition without receiving the print edition by visiting any of these websites: the iTunes App Store, Barnes and Noble, Amazon, Zinio, or Google Play.

What is included in the Smithsonian Digital Edition?
The Smithsonian Digital Edition includes all the editorial content and photos from the current print issue of Smithsonian magazine.
Will the app run on my smartphone?
No, our current digital edition is designed for the larger screen on tablet devices.
Are prior issues included in my subscription?
You will have access to any issue you paid for, if it is available digitally. Available digital issues start with the December 2011 issue.
Do digital editions expire?
No, once you download an issue as part of your subscription or purchase, it's yours to keep.

How can I reduce digital edition storage space on my iPad?
Archiving magazine issues will free-up storage space on your tablet.
You can archive an issue by going to your Library where your Smithsonian Digital Editions are located. Simply touch "Archive" for each issue and follow the prompts.
Can I re-download digital issues that I've archived?
Yes, you can re-download any issues that you've archived from your tablet.
To re-download a previously purchased issue that has been archived, return to the Library, sign in, find the issue you'd like to re-download, and tap the "Download" button.

You can quickly and easily change your address online by returning to the main menu and use the "Change Address/Email" button.

• Billing/Payment
If you would like to pay your bill in full using your credit card, please return to the main menu and use the "Pay Your Bill" button to go to our secure payment page. If you are having trouble submitting a payment online, please return to the main menu and use the "contact us" button. Or call 1-800-766-2149 for help.

If you have already paid your bill, but are still receiving invoices, please keep in mind that it can take up to two weeks for us to receive and process your payment. If it has been less than two weeks since you sent your payment, please disregard any invoices that you receive, as we may be unable to intercept them in the mail. If it has been more than two weeks since you remitted payment, please return to the main menu and use the "contact us" button.

• Renewals
If you would like to renew your subscription, please click here. Or you can return to the main menu and use the "Renew Subscription" button to use our online renewal form. Your renewal order will be added to the end of your current subscription. If you would like to find out when your subscription expires, please click here.

• Cancellation
You may cancel your subscription online by returning to the main menu and using the "Cancel Account" button.
If you have canceled your subscription, but are still receiving bills, please note that it takes a few days for a cancellation to become effective. Therefore, if you receive any invoices after you have canceled, please ignore them. If you ordered through the subscription agent Synapse, you will need to cancel your subscription directly with them by calling (877) 755-8550 (9am–10pm EST). Or you can go to their customer service website, magcustomerservice.com. Login to your account, click on "My Subscriptions," select your order and click the "Cancel" link.

• Damaged Print Issues
You can report a damaged issue online by returning to the main menu and use the "contact us" button. Your subscription will be extended to make up for the damaged issue or you can request a replacement issue.

• Late or Missed Print Issues
If you have missed an issue, we may have an incorrect address on file. Please click here to verify your address. Your magazines may also have stopped being delivered due to nonpayment. Click here to check the payment status on your account. Any outstanding balance on your account will be listed in the upper right-hand corner of the page. If you would like to pay in full for your subscription, please click here to go to our secure payment page.
If none of these explanations apply, please return to the main menu and use the "contact us" button to report the missed issue. Your subscription will be extended to make up for the missed issue or you can request a replacement issue.

• Temporarily Suspend Delivery
If you will be out of town for a while, or would like to temporarily stop your subscription for any reason, please return to the main menu and use the "suspend delivery" button.

If you are receiving duplicate copies of Smithsonian, please return to the main menu and use the "contact us" button to correct the problem.

• How can I order a copy of the current issue or back issue?
A copy of the current issue costs $6.99. A copy of a back issue costs $7.00; however, many back issues are out of print. There are no additional shipping fees for issues sent within the United States. Back Issue Availability
- All issues prior to 1998 are out of print, including the charter issue (April 1970).
- Select issues from January 1998 to December 2015 are available, although in very limited quantities
- Most issues from 2016 to date are available.

• No active subscription information
This message indicates that, while we have your name on file, you are not currently receiving a Smithsonian subscription. Your subscription may have expired or been canceled. To renew your subscription, please return to the main menu and use the "Renew Subscription" button to use our online renewal form.
If you canceled your subscription, and would like to start receiving Smithsonian again, please return to the main menu and use the "Renew Subscription" button to use our online renewal form. Or call 1-800-766-2149.

• Cannot accept online renewal
There are two reasons we may not be able to accept your online renewal:
- You are part of the Subscriber's Automatic Renewal Program. This is a hassle-free subscription program in which we automatically continue your service without sending you renewal notices. Once you are in this program, there is no need for you to transmit renewal instructions either online or through the mail. Of course, you are always in control of your subscription and may cancel at any time
- You have not paid for your current subscription. We are unable to extend your subscription contract until we have received payment for your current service period. You may have an unpaid renewals order open. To check your payment status, please click here. You may also pay your bill online by returning to the main menu and using the "Pay Your Bill" button to go to our secure payment page.

• Cannot accept online payment
We may not be able to accept your online payment because we are unable to locate your account information. If we are unable to access your account, we cannot process your payment.

• Unable to process request
If we are unable to process your request, it may be because we were unable to locate your account information.
If your account was successfully located, then please make sure you have completed all fields on the transaction form. If required fields are left blank, an error message will be displayed. Simply fill in the necessary fields and resubmit your request.
If you continue to receive error messages, then please return to the main menu and use the "contact us" button so that we may better assist you. We apologize for this inconvenience.

• Session has expired due to inactivity
